A Tribute to Mr. Blair, our Friend
One of our greatest friends, Mr. Blair, passed away December 28th, 2016.
Mr. Blair, as we have long known him, was born Blair Robertson Clarke on January 31, 1926 in Anaheim, California. After serving as an aerial gunner and surveillance photographer for the United States Navy, Mr. Blair was made Cinematographer and Editor for Navy training films. Mr. Blair’s background in photography and film led to a long and distinguished career at Disney Studios and Hollywood, being a personal photographer of Mr. Walt Disney. Mr. Blair was also a great artist and lover of art, having produced many beautiful paintings over his lifetime.
From the beginning of the Rockwall Fencing Academy, Mr. Blair has been a dedicated and beloved coach and friend, always ready to share a story from his long and colorful life. I have known Mr. Blair since I was 12 years old, in the very beginning of my fencing career, before there was a Rockwall Fencing Academy. He was with us when we started the club, and donated his time to helping in any way he could. He came to just about every single class, for years, up until the last couple of years when his health started failing and was no longer able to drive. Many fencers today remember him as their first coach, who taught them their first class, and showed them the basics.
Mr. Blair was a cherished friend and wonderful man, who will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He was a part of and captured many great moments in many people’s lives. He will live on in all of our memories.
(from As You Like It, spoken by Jaques)
All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players;
They have their exits and their entrances;
And one man in his time plays many parts…
